Beer ban in WHP lifted now?

Someone in the know please confirm if the beer ban has been lifted. I saw beer and other alcoholic drinks have been served at Highlander Hotel and Hotel Poroman yesturday (03.02.15).

Also heard that lawyers have taken out restraining orders on PEC decision in WHP to ban beer and other kind of alcohol.

Please someone confirm or verify.

Buai sales dominates Boroko hearing

By Sally Pokiton, Feb 4, 2015, PNG Loop

Despite a betel nut or buai ban in Port Moresby city, illegal street sales and the selling of these favourite nuts in public places still continue to dominate cases listed for hearing at the Boroko District Court.

More than half of the cases listed this morning before Magistrate Ben Kome were for those two charges however most accused failed to make an appearance before the court.

This morning saw 29 out of 54 cases listed for charges of illegal street selling and selling of buai in public places.

Among those arrested and charged was Anita Supma of Gembogl in the Chimbu Province who sold soft drinks and water at Koki on the 20th of January.

Charged under the NCD Litter Act for illegal selling, she pleaded guilty for selling in a public place. However police failed to bring evidence to court and the case was adjourned to February 12.

Another charged under the same act involves Doreen Tumba of Nebilyer in Western Highlands Province and Medelene Karukuru of Kairuku, Central Province.

Both women were arrested for selling outside the Gordon Betting Shop on January 26, and like Supma’s case, police failed to produce the evidence in court.

Their cases have been deferred to February 11.

Senga Paundo was arrested by police on January 27 for selling betel nut at 6-Mile market. However police yet again failed to bring the evidence to court leaving Magistrate Kome no choice but to strike out the case for lack of evidence.
